We have a new practitioner Claire, who is a specialist in Clinical Psychology.

Claire qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2008 after working as an assistant psychologist in various settings including a residential school for children with autism, a home for adults with learning difficulties and a child and adolescent mental health service. Since qualifying Claire has worked in the NHS with children and young people who are living with a chronic health condition. 

Psychology is the science and theory behind understanding how and why we think, feel and behave as we do. Clinical psychologists use this understanding to reduce psychological distress and to enhance and promote psychological well-being.

If you are experiencing emotional distress in the form of anxiety, depression, anger, grief or you are struggling with important areas of your life, such as your work, your relationships or parenting your children then therapy could help. Clinical psychologists can also help if you have been diagnosed with a physical health condition which you are finding difficult to adjust to such as treatment, changes in role, fear of the future or pain management.

Appointments last for 50 minutes. During your first session you will be asked a number of questions to enable the psychologist to better understand your difficulties and your hopes for how you would like things to be. At the end of the first session the psychologist will discuss with you the factors which could have caused or contributed to your problem and possible reasons for it continuing. This is called a formulation and will help to determine which type of talking therapy is best suited to you. A number of sessions will be offered based on your goals for therapy.
