Osteopathy is useful for treating patients with aches, pains and sports injuries, but it is more than that, by working to correct problems in the musculo-skeletal system it can be possible to improve the function of the whole body.
Widely known for treating people with "bad backs" osteopathy can be used to help those suffering with illnesses such as arthritis, sinusitis and asthma.
Osteopaths treat each patient as an individual. At the first visit a detailed case history will be taken, then the patient is asked to undress to their underwear for examination and treatment. Treatment sessions usually last 30 minutes.
Osteopaths use their hands on skills to discover the underlying causes of pain and to carry out an individual treatment specific to the patient. Treatment techniques include massage, manipulation, movement of the joints and stretching, some Osteopaths use a form of acupuncture. Osteopathy is complementary and can be used along side treatment from your GP or other medical practitioner.
Your Osteopath will always explain in detail what they are doing and are happy to discuss your treatment with you.
